Inglewood Park Cemetery, a widely used cemetery for the entire region, was founded in 1905, and the city has been home to the Hollywood Park Racetrack since 1938. Inglewood became an area of small proprietors, farms, and middle class neighborhoods, which attracted a diverse mix of Americans from suburban living Los Angeles commuters, to farmers, small business men, and wealthy estate owners. Starting in the 1930's it began being the location of high-technology firms focused on aerospace a role which was buttressed in during the defense build-up of the 1930's and 1940's.
During this period, Inglewood was a very middle class American community, known for its efficient police and fire services, excellent schools, educated population and community and patriotic oriented citizens.
